Dan Agosto and Johnny Nevin worked with an amazing artist named Shayna Swanson, composing an as-yet-unreleased track they call "What Was Beyond". Shayna has a live video of her performance that you really have to see: it's at YouTube.
Here's a track from the new Meshell Ndegeocello album Comet, Come To Me. There's a lot of good music on it, and one of our favorites is "Good Day Bad", which you can check out in the album sampler at her Soundcloud. Want to buy it? That link on the album title is the iTunes link.
Mo Pitney made quite an impression when he appeared for the first time at the legendary Grand Ole Opry last month, but then Mo Pitney always seems to make quite an impression. The Opry released this video of the performance, and it gives you some idea why the people who know about him are already talking about the early autumn release of his album.
The Fox & The Hounds is one of the more imaginative bands that you'll see, their lead singer Kendel Lester brings an edgy sense of theater to much of what they do, and especially to this concept video they recently released. There's more at their Facebook, and they'll be at Fiesta del Sol on Thursday, July 31.
Kimball Gallagher is on one of the most interesting solo tours we ever heard of; it's called the "88 Key Concert Tour", and over four years, the pianist is playing a series of eighty-eight concerts that include appearances "in private homes throughout the United States, and distinguished venues all over the world, from the Kennedy Center to Kabul, Bombay to Boulder, Chicago to Shanghai and Tuscany to Tunisia." Here he is with a remarkable performance of an especially beautiful Chopin Fantasy.
Plan "B" just released a new album called Full of Adventures, a project Dan Agosto produced at Get Small Studios and with a lot of the recording done over a long weekend in remote Wisconsin. Here's the first track, a great track, called "Another Winter" (check out Agosto's guitar solo right before the end):
Here's something really different, and exceptional. This is a video that Jeff Cooney of Firehawk Mediaworks send us. It's from The Philharmonia in London. Great visuals, great sounds, and an imaginative guide to some really cool classical music from Paul Rissman.
Reggie Rajah Helm is at M Lounge on Tuesday, July 22 from 7 to 10. Here's a look at his signature "jazz influenced R&B funk vibe" from his performance at the Regal Theater. There's more at the Rajah's Sax Facebook page.
Young Buffalo is a driving rock band out of Oxford, Mississippi who just released this single, a really melodic guitar vocal ride. They're on tour right now doing Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas, Austin and El Paso all in the next week, believe it or not. The details are at their site (that's the link at the very, very start of this story), and in Chicago they're at Schubas this Sunday, July 13. Thanks to Alex at Girlie Action for the news.
Just found out about this beautiful track from the cool people at Girlie Action in New York. Wray is a three piece band from Alabama and this track is a lush trip through a dream rock guitar landscape. Their album comes out July 15 on Communicating Vessels. They're on tour all summer too -- just back up, all the dates are at that Communicating Vessels link you just went past.
